BABA YAGA FOR HEAVY METAL BAND

In 2014, I arranged Modest Mussorgski’s “Baba Yaga” and a bit of “The Great Gate of Kiev”, both from Modest Mussorgski’s “Pictures at an exhibition”, for a Rock ensemble. I thought the explosive riffs would suit a distortion guitar, and it seems they did! My friends Tom, Raph & Dam from Cool Cavemen did a great job performing their instruments at their very best and I played sax & flute on top to get the “Classical meets Heavy Metal” feel.

OBLIVION – MELODICA & CUSTOM ENSEMBLE

This arrangement of Astor Piazzolla’s “Oblivion” is for melodica, 4 alto saxes, keys, guitar, bass and small percussion. It is close to the original piece, but I added an intro, re-harmonised some sections (the chords in red) and slightly changed the rhythm (Danzón instead of Milonga). Check it out here:

MOON RIVER – SATB CHOIR

This arrangement of Henry Mancini & Johnny Mercer‘s great tune “Moon River” is for a 4-piece soprano, alto, tenor and bass choir. My sister and I recorded ourselves on 21 tracks, which was a lot of work!

PORTRAIT OF TRACY – SAX QUARTET

Turning this milestone solo jazz bass composition by Jaco Pastorius was quite a challenge. I recorded this with 4 alto saxes that I repitched. Hope I get round to playing it with a real quartet sometime!

‘ROUND MIDNIGHT – TRUMPET & SAX SECTION

Thelonious Monk‘s legendary jazz standard “‘Round Midnight“ orchestrated for a big band sax section and a solo trumpet. I recorded this with 5 altos & a bass guitar : I do not play trumpet, nor do I own a bari sax, so I had to make do with what I had ! 😉

DON’T YOU WORRY ‘BOUT A THING – A CAPPELLA ENSEMBLE

I made and recorded this arrangement of Stevie Wonder‘s great tune “Don’t you worry ’bout a thing” with my sister Laura. There are 4 male voices, 1 female lead, and tons of beatbox percussion (more than just the 4 in the video!). We had great fun recording it, we hope you feel the same watching!

ISN’T SHE LOVELY

Another Stevie Wonder tune, that my sister and I recorded in 2016. I opted for some cuban-style 12/8 percussion for the intro, see if you can figure out where the downbeat is ! 😉

GEORGY PORGY

Here is a take on Toto’s « Georgy porgy » that I arranged for various instruments. My sister Laura sang on this one, and my friend Guillaume Mroz directed the video. We had great fun making it !

CRY ME A RIVER

Here is an arrangement of Justin Timberlake’s “Cry me a river” for a custom ensemble of me and my sister Laura (basically, it is made for the instruments I had within my reach! alto sax, keys, bass, and some drum elements). It more or mess follows the original tune, but with a jazzy twist at the bridge… Check it out for yourself:

COOL CAVEMEN’S « IGØR » – DANNY ELFMAN-STYLE INTERLUDE

With my band Cool Cavemen, we wrote “Igør”, a “regular” Funk-Rock song until it comes to the bridge (3’13). We wanted it to sound like Danny Elfman‘s work for Tim Burton’s movies (The Nightmare before Christmas was a big inspiration) so I brought 2 clarinets (soprano and bass), xylophone and glockenspiel, and a string quartet to get the atmosphere right.
